- The lesson of the Sutra of Amitayus is to develop bodhichitta, and the key point that a Sutra of Amitayus tells us is that the three generations of those who have passed away, the senior, the middle, and the junior, all have a sentence "Developing bodhicitta and always concentrating on it, Amitabha". When we implement these teachings, we develop bodhichitta and keep the teachings of the scriptures in mind all the time, and in our daily lives, we always bring up and contemplate in our dealings with others, "I am thinking now, did the Buddha teach us to do this? You still can't do this, think like this, and talk like this," according to this criterion, we should always remind ourselves and correct ourselves, so that we can get real merit and benefits from reading the scriptures. If we finish reading the scriptures and put them aside, it has nothing to do with our real life, and reading the scriptures in this way is a good root, and there will be no results in this life. In the next life and next life, when one life or one life suddenly becomes enlightened and knows that you have to do it in life, then you will get benefits, and at this time you will still not get real merit benefits. But there must be a benefit of planting good roots, planting a remote cause, and in the next life and next life, you will see which life and which life you are enlightened and start to practice, and then the benefit will be obtained. Therefore, there are many people who chant sutras and recite Buddhas, and there are not many people who know how to practice, and this is the karmic ordinary man we are talking about here, and indeed we are karmic ordinary people. Although the Dharma says that karma will be reborn, we must at least achieve 20 percent of the Amitayus Sutra's cessation of evil and cultivation of goodness, which is the minimum limit. If you can't do 20 percent, and you are indeed uncertain about dying in this life, then it depends on whether you can turn back at the last thought of your last life. We must be sure, of course, we must implement it in ordinary times, and we must work hard, which is the safest way.
